Question for today: What are you currently reading?

Answer:
I’m reading a few things right now, and it’s quite the mix. My fiction pick of the week is The It Girl by Ruth Ware. I’m also diving into That’s the Way I See It, David Hockney’s visually rich autobiography. I’ve been catching up on the past few months of Vogue, and slowly making my way through Making Time by Maria Bowler in the inspirational/self-help category.

Let’s start with Ruth Ware. I love her writing—she always keeps me on the edge of my seat. When I saw two of her books on sale at Target, I had to scoop them up. I’ve already read One By One, and I’m taking my time with The It Girl to savor the suspense. Ware is often called the Agatha Christie of our time, and I agree. Her thrillers are full of twists, psychological intrigue, and endings that keep you guessing until the final page.

Next up: That’s the Way I See It by David Hockney. What a brilliant artist and true original. I’m really enjoying how the book is formatted—the plates of his work are presented in chronological order, which lets you see his artistic evolution across mediums and styles. It’s beautifully produced and surprisingly hefty for a standard-sized book, but totally worth the weight.

Then there’s Vogue. I originally subscribed just to get the iconic, extra-thick September issue, but over the past year I’ve discovered that Vogue offers so much more than just fashion. It dives into culture, art, literature, music—and it does so with real depth. Right now, I’m devouring the May “Met Issue,” which highlights influential Black creatives. It’s fascinating, glamorous, and eye-opening—exactly the kind of world this lady from southern Utah enjoys exploring from her armchair.

Last but not least, Making Time by Maria Bowler. This book is unlike most in the self-help realm. Rather than pushing productivity or time management tips, Bowler invites you to slow down. Her sections—Doing, Undoing, and Making—guide you through letting go of the pressure to be endlessly productive and instead inspire a more creative, intentional life. I love that the chapters are short—just one or two pages—and you can open the book anywhere and find something meaningful. It feels more like a quiet companion than a how-to guide.

As you can tell, I like to mix it up. A little suspense, a little art, some cultural exploration, and a touch of introspection—my coffee table is holding it all here at the end of June.

What are you reading these days? I’d love to know.
