100 Day Project – Day 50

Question for ME: What have you got planned for May?

My answer: My very own staycation—an artist retreat, just for me.

Really? You might ask, what the heck does that mean?

Well, since I’m not traveling this year, I’ve decided to turn my vacation time into a creative adventure right at home. Think of it as all the joy, luxury, and inspiration of a trip—but without the suitcase. I’ll be designing my days around learning, making art, and treating myself kindly, just like I would if I were traveling somewhere new and exciting.

This idea came to me during a morning walk with Andy, and I’ve already mapped it all out in my head. I’m treating this retreat just like I would any other trip: with great food, a beautiful environment, mini-adventures, and a touch of pampering. I’ll keep up my walk and workout routine—something I do even while traveling—and I’ll continue my 100 Day Projects, too.

I’ve mentally created a daily itinerary that feels both productive and indulgent. Mornings will start with reading, walking, and then writing or drawing for my projects. After that, a little self-care—maybe a bit of pampering or a fun local outing while it’s still cool outside. The heart of the retreat kicks off in the early afternoon, when I’ll dive into creating. My goal is to complete one portrait a day, in addition to continuing my CVP program.

For dinner, I’m planning to cook most nights—maybe even experiment with new recipes. I’ll enjoy a glass of wine, possibly a decadent dessert, and then cozy up with one of the many movies I’ve been meaning to watch.

Why am I doing this? Mostly because I need a little break from a life that, honestly, is already pretty wonderful. I laugh admitting that, but lately I’ve been feeling a bit restless. That’s probably why I haven’t posted this blog for the past few days. I usually take four or five longer trips a year, but since adopting Andy, travel has become trickier. So, I thought, why not create my own experience at home?

I’ve also been dreaming of going on an artist retreat for ages. I’ve seen some amazing ones, but the timing never seems to line up. So I’m bringing the retreat to me.

May is the perfect time. Aside from Mother’s Day weekend—which includes out-of-town guests and a planned trip to Zion National Park (plus a day of swimming and lounging by the pool)—my calendar is wide open. And yes, I’m counting that weekend as part of the adventure!

For now, I’m off to today’s pampering session—though this one is a DIY mani-pedi. I’ll let you know how it all goes as I move through the month. Here’s to a month of creativity, rest, and treating home like the best destination of all.

I’m Nadine

Welcome to my life and the experiences that shape who I am. In February 2025, I embarked on a 100-Day Project, challenging myself to ask and answer a question every day. I invite you to follow along, explore my daily Q&A, and perhaps discover something new about yourself along the way.

Join me on this adventure of learning, creating, and embracing a slower, more intentional way of living—with my loyal companion, Andy, by my side.

Welcome to my journey!
