Question for myself: What are you planning to do today?
My answer: Some of the things I don’t usually have time for.
I’m in Salt Lake City today visiting my daughter and her family, and for once, I have a completely free day. Normally, I’m happily caught up in family activities, but today I get to carve out some time just for me. No schedule, no obligations—just a little solo adventure.
One thing I really miss doing is what I like to call “field trips.” Remember those school days when your class would pile onto a bus and head out to explore a museum, factory, or historic site? That little spark of discovery stuck with me. I’ve always loved that kind of wandering with a purpose—learning something new just for the fun of it.
Of course, many of our family outings are filled with discovery too—we’ve visited zoos, aquariums, and science centers—but one place we don’t often go is art museums. So today, that’s exactly where I’m headed.
The plan: drive downtown, find a good parking spot, and start at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art. From there, I’ll stroll through a few nearby galleries, eventually making my way to the Main City Library, where there’s an exhibit on the ground floor I’ve been meaning to see. Somewhere along the way, I’ll stop for lunch and maybe treat myself to a good coffee. And before I head home, a quick stop at the Apple Store for a new phone case and watch band.
It’s not a big, flashy day—but it’s a “me” day. I’ll let you know tomorrow how it all turns out. Sometimes, the best adventures are the ones where you get to follow your own curiosity.
