Question for Myself:What are you watching/streaming on TV lately? What about it captured you interest?
My answer: I’ve been diving into a few shows on Apple TV. The ones that have caught my attention are Foundation, Surface, and Severance, and I’ve made my way through the first season of each. I had ignored Apple TV for quite a while until I heard about Severance. The buzz from word of mouth and awards shows piqued my interest, so I decided to check it out. I’d describe Severance as a sci-fi psychological drama with a deeper, thought-provoking premise.
I liked the first episode, but it’s one of those shows that requires some space between viewings—it’s intense and heavy to digest. Because of that, I turned to Surface, which leans more into the mystery-thriller genre. Once I get hooked on a suspense thriller like this, I find it hard to stop watching, so I practically binged the entire first season. However, when I got to season two, it either lost its intrigue or I had just lost interest. I barely made it through half of the first episode before tapping out.
Currently, Foundation is my Apple TV pick. It’s pure sci-fi, based on Isaac Asimov’s novel, and delivers an epic blend of otherworldly settings, futuristic concepts, and deep-space intrigue. I read the book about 30 years ago, so revisiting the story in this format has been enjoyable. Even though the show jumps around a lot, I can follow along, and somehow, it all makes sense. It’s been a great escape from the news cycle.
Speaking of the news, I do keep up with it in moderation. My go-to is Rachel Maddow—she has a way of connecting history and facts to current events in a deep and insightful way. But too much news can feel overwhelming, so I limit myself to basic CNN updates and Maddow’s show Monday through Friday. Any more than that, and I fear my head might explode into a deep spiral dive.
And then there’s my guilty pleasure: BRAVO. I can’t resist The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, New York, and Salt Lake City, along with any Below Deck series. The drama, the personalities, the over-the-top storylines—they’re all ridiculously entertaining. Each show has its own unique flavor, and yes, I fully embrace my status as a Bravolebrity superfan.
In the end, my TV choices are all about balance—heavy dramas, sci-fi escapism, a little news, and a whole lot of reality TV fun. What are you watching lately?
