Question to myself today: How is your day going?
My answer: Much better than I expected!
Since today is the second day of daylight savings, it started an hour earlier than I would have liked. Then, to make things more interesting, the coffee machine broke. Fortunately, I always keep small packets of instant coffee in my travel supplies, so I had a quick fix. My husband, on the other hand, had a harder time with the situation. So, I made a quick trip to the nearest Walmart, picked up a new Keurig, and got back just in time for his second cup. Crisis averted.
None of this was truly a problem—but it could have been if I had let it. I’m realizing that I handle unexpected situations with more ease than I did six months ago. I’ve become better at adjusting and going with the flow. When challenges arise, I find I can adapt quickly. But if I have time to dwell on a problem, I tend to overthink it. I wish I could skip the worrying part and jump straight into the solution without letting frustration, inconvenience, or fear take up space in my mind.
Now, at 3 PM, I’m more than halfway through my day. I’ve solved the coffee crisis, straightened the house, taken Andy for a three-mile walk, worked on my current series of paintings, taught a yoga class, and even found a topic to write about. Not bad for the second day of daylight savings!
If today taught me anything, it’s that life will throw small curveballs, but how I respond makes all the difference. Flexibility, resilience, and a little instant coffee can go a long way.
