Question to myself: What Gives Me Pleasure?
My answer: Lots of different things. But first, let me define what pleasure means to me. Pleasure is that feeling of comfort and coziness that makes you smile from ear to ear. It’s a sense of warmth and calm, sometimes expressed by a soft sigh. It’s feeling satisfied, complete, and content.
So, what are the things that bring me pleasure? Hugs from friends and family—the kind that you know truly mean something. The warmth of my dog cuddling up next to me. Sitting in front of my space heater on a dreary day. Basking in the sunshine. Enjoying a comforting meal. Sometimes, it’s soaking in a warm bubble bath; other times, it’s the invigorating intensity of a hot yoga class. It could be music, a great movie, or getting lost in a good book.
Most of what I’ve listed so far revolves around warmth and heat—I do love being warm. But I also find pleasure in the crispness of a brisk morning walk, the refreshing chill of a cold Diet Pepsi, or the indulgence of a scoop of ice cream. Ultimately, what gives me pleasure is often shaped by what I am doing and, more importantly, who I am doing it with.
At the heart of it all, pleasure is about presence—fully embracing the little moments that bring joy. It’s about appreciating the simple comforts and the people who make them even better. Whether it’s a quiet moment alone or a shared experience with loved ones, pleasure is found in the connections I nurture and the mindfulness I bring to each experience.
